Rapunzel
DEC 2024
Direction: Lauren Friday
Choreography: Lauren Friday & Alice Jewell
Lauren Friday you are a very talented lady!! It was cold outside, but we soon warmed up with his “Rapunzel” at The Centre, Birchington.
Directed by Lauren Friday and Alice Jewell, this production captured all the fun expected of a Christmas pantomime. Beckie Clark as Fairy Sunbeam opened the show and continued to get the audience on her side throughout. On the other hand, Charlie Steff playing Mother Gothel (the baddie) raised a matching strength of boos. The love interests, Rapunzel (Yasmina Chaarani) and Prince Henry (Louise Adams) were matched well both in singing and dialogue. Literally towering above all on stage was Reuben Thorpe as Sarah the Cook, Reuben pulled all the stops out and he worked his audience with great success and a smidgen of ‘campness’. I got the wrath of his tongue at times!! Reuben was well supported by Frankie the valet (Dan Sheppard) in good voice and vocally sound. Other supporting roles were Alexander (Alice Jewell) Hamilton (Erin Mackie) Snitch (Richard Adams) Snatch (Paul Zannetti), King (Stephen Palmer) and of course Mum (Michelle) Friday as the Queen. All these supports kept this “Rapunzel” bobbing along nicely.
Team Glow (which I think we saw) and I’m sure Team Gleam were as good, gave us all a feeling of “bless them”. Well done to all the young people in both teams!
The shows Stage Manager, Lesley Parker, certainly pulled out all the stops to bring this “Rapunzel” to a happy and successful conclusion.
Well done to all and thank you for inviting Mary and myself. Already looking forward to “Annie” in July!
